A Look at UCF’s Recruits for 2016

On December 1st Scott Frost was hired to be the Head Football Coach at the University of Central Florida. He had two months to put together a coaching staff and find recruits that fit his system. At the time UCF had only 6 recruits leftover from the O’Leary era. Today on National Signing Day Frost has 20. He also put together a staff that includes returning coaches in Sean Beckton and Travis Fisher, and newcomers in Erik Chinander (Previously at Oregon), Greg Austin (Previously with the Eagles), Mike Dawson (Previously with the Eagles), and Troy Walters (Previously at Colorado). Some coaches such as Chinander had limited time to help wth recruiting, but the Knights got the job done. Let’s take a look at some of the most intriguing recruits and what they will mean to UCF’s future. We are UCFast and UCFierce!

For UCFast (Offense)

  1. Dredrick Snelson: The highest rated recruit in the bunch as he is a 4 star WR and ranked in the ESPN 300. Snelson adds to an already talented receiver corps at UCF and should get plenty of playing time as a true freshman. Wide Receiver University will be in good hands once again next year. Take a look at his highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2582111/highlights/217587377/v3
  2. Jawon Hamilton: A previous commit to the University of Miami and very talented back out of South Dade. Hamilton will definitely compete to be the starting RB as a true freshman and will give the Knights big play opportunities that they lacked last year at his position. He has great vision and speed as he made Second Team All State! Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/4635758/highlights/283491383/v3
  3. Adrian Killins: The 200m State Champ and perfect player for UCF’s new offense, which will be based on his best asset, speed. Killins speed will be enough to outrun almost every defense and he also has great agility and hands. I see him splitting time as both a slot receiver and RB next year. 4. Dontay Mayfield: This man who has stuck through it all, no matter the coach, record, or offers coming his way. Mayfield committed to UCF while O’Leary was coach and what impresses most about him is his commitment to UCF and strive to make us great again. He also plays on both sides of the ball so offers great versatility. Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2876297/highlights/309594380/v3
  5. McKenzie Milton: When Coach Frost was hired we all knew he would look for a dual threat QB similar to Mariota. Nobody knew he would find him in Hawaii. Milton has all the tools to succeed in Frost’s system as he is very accurate and mobile, but I think the Knights redshirt him so he can add weight and perfect the offense. UCFierce (Defense)

  1. DJ Davidson: In order to run a 3-4 defense effectively UCF will need a big man up the middle to dominate the offensive line. 6’5 300lb Davidson is the perfect answer as he has great size and explosiveness. A difference maker in 2016? I think so! Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/4132467/highlights/316022388/v3
  2. Chris Mulumba: Ranked as the 9th best strong DE in the country. UCF once again looks for a way to solidify the Defensive Line. Mulumba may be a work in process as he is fairly new to football, but his potential is enormous at 6’4 270lbs. Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1847618/highlights/298165403/v3
  3. Eric Mitchell: Originally committed to the University of Florida Mitchell doesn’t necessarily have the size of DE, but he does have great speed off the ball. The best fit for him would be a blitzing linebacker. Also he had 17 sacks as a senior. Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2704700/highlights/280681388/v3

All in all, I couldn’t be happier with the job that Coach Frost and his staff have done. This team will be very exciting to watch next year and I truly believe we will be one of the top teams in the AAC East. Our biggest concerns from last year have been filled and we have brought in great coaches and players that will compete early on.
